I love how Austrians weave Marillen into so many delicious foods! My favorite dessert is crepes (Palatschinken) filled with apricot jam. Gerhard's favorite is definitely Krapfen. His best friend and family live just outside of Krems, which means we get to visit the beautiful Wachau every time we return to Austria. My favorite season there, of course, is spring when the trees are all in bloom. Such a magical time.
Thank you! I hope you can make it to Austria someday. Nearby destinations like Prague, Budapest, Venice, Bavaria, and South Tyrol make the whole region perfect for extended trips.
That fruitcake looks like the most delicious fruitcake I’ve ever seen. Not that that’s saying all that much.
Oddly, I usually like anything apricoty…except actually apricots.
Fresh apricots taste kind of watery to some people. They’re not very sweet. All the jams and dried ones enhance the flavor.
Collin Street bakery in Texas has the fruitcake that converted me! I like it sometimes but I can’t put my finger on it.
Chabacano en México y albaricoque en España. Yum! Too bad I'm keto 😆
Austria looks like such a beautiful country.
I’m going back to keto in the New Year. I didn’t know chabacano—so many interesting words!
Excellent decision. The holidays are the perfect time to not be keto. 😆😂
Schnapps and bacon are right up my alley. Maybe not together, but also not not together.

Oh yes the blooming trees are quite the sight! I’m pretty simple myself and like to eat dried apricots, but my wife likes all the different desserts.
I am loving these travelogues. These are deep dives into places I have never heard of and now want to go.

I went to Germany on a teacher fellowship thirty years ago. My kids all went to Austria with their orchestras. These places are on my bucket list.
Now I'm hungry
Marillen! 🧡
